Julia Tarasyuk is a London-based curator, collector, art consultant, and writer specialising in Japanese contemporary art. She has over a decade of experience working with museums, galleries, and independent art initiatives across Japan, the United Kingdom, and Europe, and is dedicated to supporting the international visibility of Japanese artists. Julia is also an active collector of Japanese contemporary art and craft.
Julia spent several years living and working in Tokyo, where she developed a close engagement with Japan’s contemporary art scene and founded her art consultancy. Her work focuses on introducing emerging and mid-career Japanese artists to international audiences through exhibitions, publications, and strategic collaborations, while fostering dialogue and exchange between Japanese and global art communities.
In 2020 she co-founded IKEBANA Projects, a platform for curated artistic collaborations, cultural events, and retreats inspired by contemporary approaches to Ikebana.
Julia curates exhibitions internationally and works closely with Japanese artists and galleries to support their presence in exhibitions, collections, and art fairs. Recent curatorial projects include New Nature (2022) and the Hanadome Project (2023) at Paterson Zevi, London, as well as solo exhibitions by Fumi Imamura at Lyndsey Ingram Gallery, London (2023, 2025) and CAVE-AYUMI Gallery, Tokyo (2026). She also advises on artistic collaborations with cultural brands, including recent projects with Ffern and Comme des Garçons.
Julia is the author of Art Tokyo (2018) and regularly contributes writing on Japanese contemporary art to international publications.
